& age spot reduction.

Pigment Laser in Cincinnati Ohio

At Amy Brenner MD & Associates, we utilize the GentleMax Pro® laser to target and destroy unwanted melanin in the skin. After a lifetime of being exposed to the sun, you are bound to notice brown spots on your face, neck, chest and hands.

The pigment laser in Cincinnati OH can reverse the effects of sun damage and tighten the skin for a firm appearance.

Reverse the signs of excessive sun exposure

After a lifetime of being exposed to the sun, you are bound to notice brown spots on your face, neck, chest and hands. Age spots, technically known as “solar lentigines,” are flat, uniformly colored areas of brown pigment most common in sun-exposed areas.

Despite the name “age spots,” these spots are not caused by age, but rather they come from sun damage. The heat from the laser will also stimulate collagen and elastin production in the treated area, giving you additional skin toning and reducing fine wrinkles.

This rejuvenation is perfect for skin on the face, neck, chest, arms, or hands.

How does pigment laser work?

During treatment with a pigment laser, laser light is absorbed only by the unwanted melanin, raising the temperature to cause shattering of the pigment. Our lasers work to reduce age spots or pigmentation on any skin tone on the face or body, except for darker skin tones. Clients with darker skin (Fitzpatrick scale IV or greater) are not candidates for this procedure because the skin surrounding the brown spot could absorb too much laser energy and produce a more serious burn. Our physicians will discuss alternative treatments with you if a Pigment Laser isn’t the best option.

Process & Results

Procedure Process

Our skin care specialists and physicians will help you create an individualized treatment plan tailored to your specific goals.

A single treatment with a pigment laser in Cincinnati OH can reduce the appearance of pigmented spots. However, our recommended treatment plan is a series of 3 laser treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4
Step 1

The Consultation

First, we recommend a consultation with our skin care specialists prior to your treatment. This can be accomplished on the day of your treatment, but our preference is to make this a separate appointment to ensure you are informed of all of the do’s and don’ts in preparing for your procedure.

Step 2

Prepare for the treatment

On the day of your procedure, it is imperative that you do not have an active tan (i.e. that your skin has not been tanned in the last 2 weeks). First, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed. Protective eyewear will be put in place to ensure safety of the eyes in the presence of the pigment laser light. Your provider will individualize the laser parameters/settings to customize the treatment to your condition.

Step 3

Treat and protect the skin

During the procedure, you will feel a warming sensation. A Zimmer Cooler will be used to ensure comfort during the procedure. Anesthesia with topical numbing medication is not necessary and if used can decrease the results of the treatment.

Step 4

Treatment Don’ts

Again, it is imperative to ensure you are informed of all of the do’s and don’ts in preparing for your procedure. We cannot treat anyone who has an active tan (sun exposure in the last 2 weeks). Treating someone with an active tan will result in burning of the skin and potentially permanent hyperpigmentation. Also, results of the laser treatment can be significantly enhanced by pre-treating skin with an appropriate skin care regimen for up to 4 weeks prior to the treatment with a pigment laser in Cincinnati.

Additional Information
Does the pigment laser treat melasma

Unfortunately, this Pigment laser in Cincinnati does not treat melasma (or the "mask of pregnancy" that is typically caused by hormonal changes). If melasma is your concern, our aesthetician can offer you several effective skin care regimens.

Recovery Details

After a treatment from a pigment laser in Cincinnati it is common for the skin to appear pink or red. Over the next 24 to 72 hours you will notice a darkening of the pigment in the treatment area. Some patients also experience peeling, but peeling is not necessary for the treatment to be successful. In the weeks after receiving treatment from the pigment laser in Cincinnati, the shattered melanin particles are eliminated by your body's own "clean up" system that absorbs the fragmented pigment. It is essential that you protect the treated areas from the sun, both with avoidance of sun exposure and using a broad spectrum SPF 30 (or higher). Failure to do this can result in hyperpigmentation (darkening of skin in the area).

Who is a candidate for this procedure?

Any man or woman who shows the signs of aged and sun-damaged skin is a candidate for Photorejuvenation. A brief consultation with a our aesthetician should provide all the information needed. Certain factors, including dark or deeply tanned skin or melasma (the mask of pregnancy), may make certain people ineligible for this laser procedure.

It's simple— identify the problem areas of your body and we will recommend the right treatment plan for you.
