Irritable Bowel Syndrome in Cincinnati, Ohio
About Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a gastrointestinal disorder that impacts 25 million Americans, mostly women in their 20’s to 40’s. Thankfully IBS does not increase your risk of colon cancer, however, the abdominal discomfort associated with IBS is a long-lasting problem that changes how you live your life. People with IBS may miss work or school, often missing out on daily activities due to fear of symptoms.
At Amy Brenner MD & Associates, we can create a wellness program tailored to you.
Our Approach to Treatment.
Because it is not clear what causes IBS in every person, traditional medical treatment focuses on the relief of symptoms. Medications specifically for chronic constipation or diarrhea may be prescribed. While this may provide temporary relief from an acute flare-up, it does not address the root cause of the syndrome.
Symptoms of Irritable Bowel syndrome:
- Abdominal pain
- Constipation and diarrhea fluctuation
- Increased gas
- Bloating (distention)
- Food intolerance
This comprehensive stool evaluation can reveal important information about inflammation, yeast, parasites, bacteria, pathogens, cancer-preventative short chain fatty acids, pancreatic function, and markers for digestion and absorption.Return to Comprehensive Stool Testing ^
SIBO is the presence of abnormally large numbers of bacteria in the small intestine. Symptoms of SIBO are non-specific, but include bloating, belching, gas and abdominal distension. Often SIBO is misdiagnosed as simply IBS.
The most accurate way to diagnose SIBO is a Lactulose Breath Test to detect the presence of hydrogen and/or methane gas, which are secreted from the abundant bacteria in the small intestine. Once the diagnosis is solidified, we designed a comprehensive treatment protocol to address the root cause of your symptoms.Return to SIBO Breath Test ^
Food intolerances may be one of the triggers of IBS. With an easy blood test, once we know the degree of your sensitivity to a food, we can recommend the proper elimination and rotation diet, supplements that heal the lining of your gut, and appropriate lifestyle changes.Return to Food Sensitivity/Allergy Testing ^
