We cannot speak for your doctor. There may be specific reasons relating to your care. However, over 95% of our procedures are done in our office. We specifically designed our practice to specialize in office-based procedures. Most carriers support doing these procedures in the office and the trend is clearly moving in that direction.

We are not owned by, or affiliated with, any local hospitals or networks. Therefore, we do not have any agreements or expectations of performing these procedures at the hospital. We believe the best option for the patient should be the only guide in determining where the procedure takes place. If cost (including patient out of pocket cost) is a main consideration, then we know that having the procedure done in our office is the clear-cut choice for the patient versus a hospital setting, when appropriate.

Our office is one of the few facilities in the area to receive accreditation from AAAASF – The American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities. AAAASF is recognized as the Gold Standard for accreditation in medical facilities.

What do you mean by IV sedation for your procedures?
There are two primary methods of delivering patient comfort during office-based procedures: Local anesthesia and IV sedation. Approximately 95% of our office procedures are currently performed under IV sedation. Our gynecologists feel this is the best experience for the patient as there is no pain felt during the procedure and no memory of the procedure taking place. In fact, Dr, Brenner chose IV sedation for herself when having an endometrial ablation procedure done for herself.

In the occasional instance where the patient wants or needs to use local anesthesia instead of IV sedation, our gynecologists utilizes nationally recognized protocols to ensure a comfortable patient experience.

The primary advantages to having procedures in our office can be summarized as follows:

Expertise — We are a AAAASF accredited specialty GYN office. This is what we do. Our practice was designed specifically for this purpose. Additionally, Dr. Brenner is a leading expert on the endometrial ablation procedure and has taught doctors all over the country on her best practices. We have wonderful hospitals in Cincinnati, but they are designed to service many specialties of medicine.
Convenience — The average time in our office is usually only one hour (two at the maximum). Our patients tell us they spend significantly more time at the hospital for this procedure. Additionally, your family member can relax in our comfortable waiting room with a coffee bar. You can even park right at our door!
Cost — Let’s face it, this is important to everyone. Generally speaking, we see a distinct difference in cost by having a procedure performed in an outpatient setting (hospital) versus an office setting. A primary difference often lies in the charge for the use of the hospital or outpatient facility, commonly known as a facility fee. Our agreement with your insurance carrier indicates that procedures done in our office are treated as an “office visit” and, therefore, do not incur a facility charge. In many cases it may just involve an office visit co-pay from the patient.

The procedure is recognized as a covered service by all the major insurance carriers. That is great news. From there, you must determine your individual deductible and/or copay requirements. Our schedulers are experts at assisting you in working with your insurance company to determine your potential costs. If you are considering having this procedure done in the hospital, we urge you to check with your insurance carrier first to understand any potential out of pocket cost differences. Our patient have told us that this alone saved them hundreds, and in some cases thousands of dollars.

While some women may feel slight cramping, others may not experience any discomfort at all. Patients choosing IV sedation feel no pain and have no memory of the procedure. Some women do have cramping after the procedure.

Some women report menstrual-like cramps after the procedure. Most women report feeling back to normal by the morning after the procedure. A mild pain medication will be prescribed.

Most women return to work and family duties the very next day.

The surgical risks associated with this minimally-invasive procedure are rare. The devices used have safety features and have been used in the hospital setting for over a decade.

Dr. Brenner is a national speaker and preceptor for minimally invasive procedures. This means she is one of the leading experts on this procedure anywhere in the country. She teaches physicians all over the country about minimially invasive technologies . She has been a consultant for several devices in the past including the Novasure, Thermachoice and Microwave ablation technology. Dr. Brenner recently completed a pivotal trial for an upcoming medical device for endometrial ablation. She is continually evaluating the medical literature about the most up-to-date and best in class treatments for her patients. This is why at this time, our gynecologists choose to perform and consult on the Novasure and Genesys HTA procedure. They will customize the treatment based on your symptoms, uterine size and specific uterine cavity.

Pre-menopausal women who have completed childbearing may be candidates for the MyFlow^® procedure.

Our gynecologists will perform diagnostic tests to rule out any abnormal uterine conditions and malignancy. Pap test and biopsy must be normal.
