How fat cells work

Before you can understand how CoolSculpting works, it’s important to know the basics of how fat cells work. So first, a little myth busting. Despite popular belief, no matter how much time you spend on the treadmill, you’re not actually burning fat cells.
From the time you’re an infant to about your mid 20s, the number of fat cells in your body increases. But once you hit your mid 20s, you really don’t gain or lose anymore. If you notice some extra fat, it’s not because you have more fat cells; it’s because the fat cells you already have are getting bigger.
Note: Fat cell count may increase if you gain a significant amount of weight.
There are different types of fat cells, but white fat is the cause behind the excess fat you commonly think of. Before you write them off as the enemy, know that white fat is there for a reason. Outside of storage, these cells are important for regulating blood sugar levels by pulling out excess sugar from the bloodstream. Too much fat, though, can throw off that sugar-regulating function.
The size of your fat cells can be genetic, but it is also influenced by how much you’re eating versus how much energy you’re burning. When you eat too much, the energy that isn’t used gets stored in your fat cells, causing them to expand.
Traditional methods like diet and exercise can help shrink fat cells, but you won’t be able to target where on your body that process happens. Plus, those methods won’t ever get rid of those cells, making it harder to keep the weight off. Shrunken fat cells stick around, waiting for any reason to plump back up.
That’s where CoolSculpting comes in. It doesn’t just shrink fat cells; it kills them once and for all.

What is CoolSculpting?

Results of Amy Brenner MD & Associates CoolSculpting Patient

CoolSculpting in Cincinnati is a branded version of cryolipolysis, a technique that uses cold temperatures to freeze fat cells. Once those fat cells are gone, you never have to worry about them coming back!
As a bonus, we can perform CoolSculpting almost anywhere, including your:

  • Chin
  • Love handles
  • Thighs
  • Muffin top
  • Bra fat
  • Arms
  • Abdomen
  • And more

A brief history

The history of CoolSculping is definitely interesting. In 1970, scientists noticed that kids who ate popsicles lost fat in their cheeks. Coined “popsicle panniculitis,” the phenomenon led to the discovery that lipid-rich fat cells were more susceptible to cold injuries than the water-rich cells that surround them.
This process is how CoolSculpting became so popular. It targets and destroys fat cells without damaging the tissue that’s around it–giving you a safe fat-loss solution.

How CoolSculpting works

Unlike other fat-reducing techniques like liposuction, CoolSculpting doesn’t require surgery or other invasive techniques.
Externally, your fat is vacuumed into a cooling device that freezes and kills the fat cells, while safely maintaining the skin cells in between. A built-in safety feature shuts down the device if the skin gets too cold, ensuring your safety throughout the treatment.
A CoolSculpting treatment usually takes about 35 minutes.

The Benefits of CoolSculpting in Cincinnati

CoolSculpting doesn’t require anesthesia or downtime

CoolSculpting is an innovative fat-reducing treatment that doesn’t require you to go under the knife. Procedures like liposuction come with painful recovery times, and you’ll be forced to take off work. With CoolSculpting in Cincinnati, you’re in and out of the office and can go back to your regular activities!

CoolSculpting targets fat loss

Exercising can help tone muscles and reduce overall fat, but it’s genetics that decides where you lose the fat, not you. But CoolSculpting targets specific areas, so if you want to get rid of those love handles, CoolSculpting can help!

CoolSculpting produces long-lasting, permanent results

Since CoolSculpting actually freezes and kills fat cells, the cells can’t just resurrect themselves; they’re gone forever. In the following weeks after your procedure, your body will process the fat and eliminate the dead cells.

CoolSculpting is designed for people of all ages

All ages are welcome to enjoy the benefits of CoolSculpting. If you have a little excess fat you’re tired of looking at, then the procedure is for you. Keep in mind, though, that CoolSculping doesn’t tighten loose skin. (But we can help with that too!)

CoolSculpting can increase self confidence

CoolSculpting finally gives you the body you’ve been wanting. Sometimes stubborn fat just doesn’t go away, no matter how many hours in the gym you put in. It’s time to be proud of your body, and CoolSculpting can give you a much needed self-esteem boost.

Frequently asked questions

Does CoolSculpting actually work?

Yes! You may not notice results right away, but that’s because it takes time for the body to process the dead fat cells. You can see results as early as 30 days, with peak results at 90 days. We’ve completed over 7,000+ treatments and have seen amazing results.
Note: You may need to come in for multiple sessions to maximize your results, and results vary from person to person.

Is CoolSculpting safe?

Of course, but that’s not to say that you should go to anyone who offers CoolSculpting in Cincinnati. We are a 2021 Allergan Diamond Practice, this means we are in top 4% of all providers for CoolSculpting! Amy Brenner, MD & Associates was the first office in the area to attend the Master’s Class at the CoolSculpting University, and we are the first practice to offer CoolSculpting Plus.

Does CoolSculpting hurt?

No. Initially, you may feel some intense cold, but that feeling usually goes away within 5 to 8 minutes as the area numbs. You may also notice some pulling, tugging, or mild tingling sensations. Either way, you won’t experience any kind of intolerable pain.

What results can I expect?

Since CoolSculpting freezes fat cells, the biggest benefit you’ll find is long-lasting, permanent body sculpting. As time passes, the treated area(s) will be more toned and noticeably slimmer than it was before. For more stubborn areas, you may need multiple sessions to get the results you want.
Note: CoolSculpting may not be as beneficial for people with large amounts of excess fat. It works best for people who are close to their target weight and need help with only stubborn fat pockets rather than whole-body fat loss solutions

What To Do When You Hit a Fat-Loss Plateau

Is CoolSculpting permanent?

Yes, CoolSculpting results are permanent! Once fat cells are destroyed, there’s no way for them to come back. Keep in mind that the fat cells that are left can still grow, so you always want to maintain a healthy diet and workout regime.

Is reducing fat the same thing as losing weight?

Not necessarily. You can lose weight without losing fat (i.e. water weight). Fat reduction via CoolSculpting ensures that you get rid of fat. You’ll look smaller, even if the scale stays the same.

Can I do cryolipolysis at home?

We don’t recommend it. A lot of DIY cryolipolysis options involve ice or other frozen materials. You may think that applying something cold to your skin will do the same thing, but cryolipolysis isn’t that simple. Instead, you’re freezing your skin, not your fat. Plus, trying CoolSculpting at home could lead to frostbite, numbness, and even permanent tissue damage. It’s best to leave it to the professionals. This will get you great results with little to no risk.

Can you combine treatments?

YES! Depending on your body contouring goals – fat pockets, loose skin, cellulite or toning of muscles, CoolSculpting can often be combined with other treatments in our office. Our most commonly combined treatments include CoolSculpting and Evolve Tite, where we will target your submental fat with CoolSculpting and then follow up with Evolve Tite treatments to help with loose skin.
