Women have the opportunity to experience many unforgettable moments during their lives. The journey from puberty to menopause is sprinkled with beautiful memories and complex emotions, and our bodies allow us to go through it all.
Although we can love our bodies and appreciate that they have allowed us to take in everything life offers, we can also want to change them to enhance how we feel and improve our well-being.
As one of Cincinnati’s top-rated gynecology and wellness clinics, Amy Brenner, MD & Associates is passionate about helping women look and feel their best with advanced technologies and customized treatments. This includes our labiaplasty procedures.
And we get it; labiaplasty isn’t something many of us chat about over brunch with our girlfriends. But these procedures can provide significant relief and joy to the women who choose to entrust us with their care.
This blog will detail two popular labiaplasty surgeries: labiaplasty minora and labiaplasty majora. Keep reading to learn more about how these procedures work and to find out about the other types of vaginal rejuvenation operations we offer.
What is Labiaplasty? | Ohio Options
Labiaplasty is a cosmetic gynecology procedure that can change the appearance of the labia minora (inner vaginal lips) and the labia majora (outer vaginal lips). A woman can choose to have either one or both procedures.
At Amy Brenner, MD & Associates, our skilled Cosmetic Gynecological Surgeon, Dr. Amy Brenner performs both types of labiaplasty. Ohio provider Dr. Brenner is skilled at performing these and other types of cosmetic gynecology procedures.
Who is labiaplasty for?
Labiaplasty is for anyone who wants to amend the look and shape of their labia minora or labia majora. Labias come in all shapes and sizes, and sometimes, life experiences (like childbirth and pregnancy) and aging can change how labia minora and majora look.
While elongated or uneven labia minora and majora are normal, they can sometimes cause discomfort due to irritation or rubbing during exercise or sexual intercourse. A woman may also choose to have labiaplasty because of how their labia minora or majora look under tight-fitting clothing.
What happens during labiaplasty?
During a labiaplasty, Dr. Brenner will sculpt the inner or outer labia (or both) to help them appear more symmetrical, reduce thickness, and amend their size and appearance.
Our labiaplasty procedures are typically done with local anesthesia and oral sedation, but IV sedation is also available in our AAAASF-accredited office and surgical suite. During the procedure, Dr. Amy Brenner will use the Ellman Surgitron. This instrument features a cool tip that minimizes thermal damage to the skin and gently creates precise incisions.
While these surgical procedures may sound intimidating, we can assure you that our team has the skill and compassion to handle labiaplasty. Ohio provider Dr. Amy Brenner has perfected these procedures to ensure you get the results you want and recover quickly.
Labiaplasty Minora Details
Women can choose to have labiaplasty minora for practical and aesthetic reasons. The following are the most common reasons we perform this procedure:
- A patient experiences discomfort during sexual intercourse or when they exercise.
- A woman feels self-conscious about how her labia minora looks or how it appears under tighter-fitting clothing.
- A client feels regular discomfort because her labia minora rubs against her clothing or body, causing her skin to become irritated.
Labiaplasty Minora Options
We offer 3 types of labia minora procedures to our patients:
- RIM Labiaplasty: This procedure eliminates part of the labia minora and addresses excess bulging. It leaves a smaller rim of the labia minora that’s level above the labia majora to create a natural look.
- Barbie Labiaplasty: This surgery removes the labia minora. We recommend combining this procedure with a clitoral hood reduction.
- Hybrid Labiaplasty: This procedure combines the above procedures, leaving the patient with a greatly reduced labia minora. We recommend combining this procedure with a clitoral hood reduction.
Consultation
Before any procedure, we’ll have a consultation so you can ask Dr. Brenner any questions about labiaplasty.
Ohio patients who choose our practice to perform this procedure will always have the opportunity to find out if it can help them achieve their desired outcome.

Procedure
It typically takes 1 hour to 2 hours to perform labiaplasty. Ohio provider Dr. Brenner will use the aesthetic protocol we discussed in our consultation and use the Ellman Surgitron to shape your labia minora using its no-touch method. We use self-dissolvable sutures that will disappear within 6 weeks.
Recovery Time
You should plan to need anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks of bed rest following your procedure and 6 to 8 weeks to recover fully. We will help manage post-surgery discomfort through prescription or over-the counter pain medications. You may notice some swelling while you heal and should avoid using tampons for one cycle.
Labiaplasty Majora Details
This labiaplasty procedure addresses the labia majora. The labia majora (sometimes referred to as the outer lips) can sometimes change size and shape throughout a woman’s life, leading to the following conditions:
- Sagging
- Bulging
- Elongation
- Asymmetry
These issues can sometimes cause discomfort and self-consciousness.
Consultation
During your consultation, ask Dr. Brenner about the procedure so they can address your concerns about labiaplasty.
Procedure
During this hour-long procedure, Dr. Brenner will use the Ellman Surgitron to make precise incisions and excise the amount of skin discussed in your consultation. We use self-dissolvable sutures in the incision areas, which will disappear within 6 weeks.
Recovery Time
Patients typically need anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks of bed rest following surgery and 6 to 8 weeks to recover fully. We’ll suggest over-the-counter pain medications to help eliminate post-procedure discomfort. Clients sometimes experience swelling while healing, and they should avoid using tampons for one cycle.
Non-Surgical Labiaplasty
We also offer non-surgical labiaplasty using AVIVA FemTite for patients with mild to moderate labia minora elongation and mild to moderate labia majora laxity.
AVIVA uses radiofrequency (RF) to heat the treatment area, reducing vulvar and labial tissue size and skin laxity by triggering elastin and collagen production. More specifically, this procedure can also address the following concerns:
- Labia majora laxity
- Labia minora that’s mildly enlarged
- Loose or excess clitoral hood skin
- Introitus, gaping vagina
- Mons pubis laxity
Consultation
This appointment can help Dr. Brenner get to know you better. We will discuss your anatomy and desired outcome to determine the best procedures for your goals. You can also take this time to ask any questions about cosmetic gynecology!
Procedure
Non-surgical labiaplasty typically takes 1 hour. To help you stay comfortable during the procedure, we use tumescent anesthesia, topical numbing cream, and offer patients ProNox, a self-delivery nitrous oxide system that can ease procedure anxiety.
After administering anesthesia, Dr. Brenner will make a small incision and guide the device’s small handpiece under the skin to treat the area with RF. After treating the area with AVIVA, she will use Morpheus8 to promote tissue tightening.
Recovery Time
Recovery after AVIVA is relatively quick! Patients should avoid using tampons or having sexual intercourse for 2 weeks and avoid using NSAIDs for 3 days after the procedure. You’ll also need to wear compression leggings or underwear for a week following the procedure and use a recovery cream to protect the vulva. Side effects are mild and typically only involve slight discomfort, swelling, and redness.
What Patients Are Saying
Clients who entrust us to perform their labiaplasty are exceptionally satisfied with their results!
Take a look at the following review from a patient who had labiaplasty minora at our office, and visit our before and after gallery to see other procedure results:
“Amazing! All around exceptional. I waited too long to have this procedure. I was not happy with my vagina after a bartholin cyst and 5 children. It was just ugly and uncomfortable. Stephanie and Dr. Brenner are wonderful. Very professional and skilled. Also humorous which I appreciate.
They were quick to reply to my msgs and address my concerns. Dr. Brenner called to check on me the night of my surgery. Much appreciated. I stayed awake for surgery which was ok. The pain afterward was expected but the outcome is like they said just beautiful.
I’m told my surgery was one of the harder ones due to the condition of my vagina lol but you would not know that now. It is beautiful. I’m in love with it. I would absolutely recommend this office, procedure and this dr. Over and over. I feel like I can’t thank them enough.”
