Skin conditions we treat

We treat patients of all ages for acne. Many people in their 30s or older begin to experience adult acne as a result of hormones. We have treatments and products we can recommend and will help find the root cause of your acne.

Acne scars

Acne scars occur when past acne damages skin cells and the healing process forms a scar. Different types of acne cause different types of acne scars

  • Severe cystic acne = atrophic scars
  • Widespread acne = boxcar scars
  • Cheek acne = ice pick scars

Many people with acne scars can also experience post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Hyperpigmentation is probably one of the broadest skin conditions we can treat. It includes but is not limited to:

  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • Melasma (often caused by hormonal changes like pregnancy)
  • Sun spots / sun damage

Skin laxity, also known as loose skin, is very common. It can result from many environmental factors or internal factors, like sun damage, smoking, or weight loss.

Laxity is a very typical sign of aging; your skin cell turnover decreases every year, meaning less collagen and elastin—the proteins responsible for the structure of your skin.

Many people experience laxity around the upper and lower eyelids, around the jar (jowls), and on the neck (platysmal bands).

Fine lines and wrinkles

Fine lines and wrinkles are probably the first sign of aging most people notice. They are natural as you age (see our note earlier on collagen and elastin) and form around our facial expressions.

Many people expedite the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by:

  • Excessive sun exposure
  • Using little to no sun protection
  • Poor hydration
  • Smoking
  • Excessive facial expressions

Sun spots, also known as “age spots”

Sun spots are exactly what they sound like. They are pesky spots that are darker than your natural skin tone, and they appear from excess sun exposure.

A sun tan is the result of your body’s natural sun protection system. As you’re out in the sun, your skin produces more melanin to protect itself. This is what gives you the change in pigment. When there is damage from a burn or you tan frequently, this extra pigmentation sticks around, creating sun spots.

If you’re tired of that vellus “peach fuzz” on your face, dermaplaning is the perfect solution without waxing or shaving. Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation method where your provider sweeps a scalpel over the outer surface of your skin.

This process gets rid of hair, dead skin cells, and other debris. The result is a glowy, smoother complexion that is perfect for skincare product penetration and makeup application.

DiamondGlow is a fan favorite here at Amy Brenner, MD & Associates. This special FDA-cleared device uses a patented, diamond-tipped wand over the skin.

The process gently but deeply exfoliates, getting rid of dirt and debris in the pores. It finishes with a custom SkinMedica® serum application for a glow unlike anything else.

PRP Facial

PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma; you can think of this substance as liquid gold. It’s actually made from your body’s natural resources. Activation of the PRP results in increased collagen and elastin, promotes angiogenesis (or the formation of new blood vessels) and improves blood flow.

PRP facial combines this ingredient with microneedling to regenerate collagen within the skin and improve a wide variety of concerns.

Botox is perhaps the most well-known cosmetic injectable. It uses neurotoxin ingredients to inhibit muscle movement, softening facial expressions and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is also incredibly versatile for other techniques listed below.

  • Wrinkles around the eyes “crow’s feet”
  • Lines around the mouth “smokers lines”
  • Eyebrow Lift
  • Wrinkles on the nose “bunny lines”

Dysport is another neurotoxin injectable, similar to Botox. The primary difference between Botox and Dysport is how long it lasts. Typically, Dysport results can last between 3-4 months.

Other skin clinic treatments

Microneedling is a form of skin rejuvenation that can also be a great alternative to lasers. This treatment works by using tiny microneedles to make controlled injuries to the skin. These “injuries” result in the natural skin healing process: collagen and elastin production.

Our providers can perform microneedling on the face, neck, chest, arms, or any area that may have textural issues (such as the stomach for stretch marks).

Morpheus8 RF Microneedling

Morpheus8 has quickly become one of our most popular treatments! It combines the power of traditional microneedling with the rejuvenating effects of radiofrequency (RF). Morpheus8 is revolutionary because it treats deeper than most microneedling devices.

It is FDA-cleared as a Subdermal Adipose Remodeling Device, or SARD. This means that Morpheus treats more than just the skin–by directing energy into the tissue below the skin, difficult to treat conditions like neck fat and jowl laxity without surgery.
