Aesthetic treatments help you revive and refresh your skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and dark spots. However, even though you may notice amazing results, the best way to maintain them is through a great skincare regimen. Without taking care of your skin, you may find your anti-aging benefits don’t last as long as you’d like.
Let our experts at Amy Brenner, MD & Associates help you get started with a basic anti-aging skincare routine you can build on for your needs.
Step One: Find the right ingredients
Instead of scrambling through products that don’t work, become more cognizant of the ingredients you search for. A bottle can say it does one thing, but if it isn’t full of the right stuff, it might not actually work. To complement your aesthetic procedures, check for high-quality products with:
- Retinoids
- Peptides
- Hyaluronic acid
- Antioxidants
- Lactic acid
- Glycolic acid
Step Two: Build Your Routine
1- Cleanse: You want to start with a gentle facial cleanser that won’t dry out the skin; dry skin can accentuate wrinkles and fine lines. Based on your skin type, try out a facial wash infused with antioxidants, vitamins (such as Vitamin C, Vitamin K, and Vitamin E), enzymes, and more.
2 – Tone: Toner helps restore your skin’s pH levels after cleansing and can even help remove excess dirts and oils you couldn’t remove while washing. Search for an alcohol-free toner to avoid overdrying.
3 – Apply Serums: Incorporating serums into your routine can add extra vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other ingredients into your skin. Different serums perform different tasks, so you can always use more than one if needed.
For hydration: Hyaluronic acid serums
For brightening: Vitamin C or other antioxidant-based serums
For cellular turnover: AHA serums or retinol serums (use nightly)
4 – Hydrate: Now it’s time to apply your favorite moisturizer. This allows you to seal in your serums while helping your skin cells maintain its water content. We recommend moisturizers with glycerin, hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and occlusives (that aren’t silicones).
5 – Protect: No anti-aging skincare routine is complete without sunscreen. While there are moisturizers that come with SPF, it’s often more beneficial to implement a separate product. Ingredients such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are typically safe and effective options.
Step Three: Continue your aesthetic treatment plan
As you continue taking care of your skin at home, further enhance your efforts with medical spa treatments. With so many options available, you can combine procedures to create a plan right for you.
Some of our favorite anti-aging treatments include:
Chemical Peels: chemical solutions that removes outer layers of damaged skin, helping reduce hyperpigmentation and fine lines
CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing: a carbon dioxide laser treatment that promotes the body’s natural healing process to boost collagen, promote cellular turnover, and reduce large pores
Morpheus8 RF Microneedling: combines traditional microneedling with radiofrequency energy to tighten skin and promote collagen production
