Every vagina looks unique.
Vulvas of all shapes and sizes are perfectly healthy and function exactly as they should. As women’s health providers, the team at Amy Brenner, MD & Associates always emphasizes that the appearance of your vagina does not equate to gynecologic health. Improving its appearance through cosmetic gynecology is a choice that is totally up to the individual.
Cosmetic gynecology refers to a range of procedures that improve the cosmetic appearance of the vulva and/or vagina. These treatments are not for your health, which is why they’re considered “cosmetic,” however, some of these procedures may improve discomfort and increase pleasure.
The Vulva
To understand what’s possible with cosmetic gynecology, it’s important to understand the anatomy of the vulva.
Cosmetic gynecology can improve several conditions.
We can improve many common concerns for both the vulva and vagina. Everyone’s anatomy differs, and certain areas are the primary concern for individuals seeking cosmetic gynecology treatment.
And not everyone experiences the same severity or combination of symptoms. Everyone’s body, lifestyle, and genetics are unique, and it’s important to understand how different conditions can affect your sex life.

Vaginal laxity
Vulvar laxity is skin that is lacking elasticity outside of the vagina, typically on the labia majora, labia minora, or perineum. Skin laxity is common with aging as skin loses collagen and elastin, the two building blocks of elasticity. This breakdown of these elements’ structure creates sagging skin.

Vulvar Pigmentation
Darker pigmentation on and around the vulvar region is totally normal. This skin color difference is from a change in hormone levels, friction, and aging. Some cosmetic gynecology treatments can help lighten skin in this area, if desired.

Labia Majora, Labia Minora, & Clitoral Hood
These three areas of anatomy are very common for cosmetic gynecology procedures. We can improve several conditions by a reduction in the amount of tissue.
Bulges in Clothing
Excess tissue in the labia majora, labia minora, or clitoral hood can cause the area to be prominent in underwear, swimsuits, and even certain types of clothing.
Irritation
Excess tissue in these areas can also cause skin irritation from day-to-day activities like sitting, riding a bike, or during sex. The skin tissue can cause excessive rubbing or friction, leading to pain and discomfort.

Anal Skin Tags
Anal skin tags happen to both women and men, and they are also a common cosmetic concern. Like any other skin tag, anal skin tags can develop from excessive friction over time. While they pose no health risk, they can be a cause of discomfort or embarrassment.
Procedure Types
Cosmetic Gynecology
There are a wide variety of cosmetic gynecology procedures designed to treat the above conditions. Our team of gynecologists and women’s health providers tailors all of these procedures to each patient’s unique anatomy and goals for results. Below is a quick overview of surgical and non-surgical cosmetic gynecology procedures offered at Amy Brenner, MD & Associates.
Surgical
VaL
Vaginoplasty
A vaginoplasty is a form of vaginal tightening or vaginal rejuvenation. This procedure tightens both the inner and outer muscles and tissue structures of the vagina. This leads to better muscle tone, strength, and control to improve sexual function while also resulting in a smaller vaginal diameter.

Labiaplasty Majora
A labiaplasty is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess labial tissue. For a labiaplasty majora, the surgeon reshapes the outer vaginal lips to improve symmetry, reduce size, and reshape the area.
LMi
Labiaplasty Minora
A labiaplasty minora also seeks to reduce excess labia tissue. In particular, a labiaplasty minora reduces and reshapes the inner vaginal lips (labia minora) for symmetry and rejuvenation.
VaL
Perineoplasty
A perineoplasty repairs the perineum, the skin tissue between the opening of the vagina and the anus. A perineoplasty is a common procedure to improve the tissue in this area, as one of the primary causes of damage to the perineum is tearing during childbirth. A perineum tear can cause scarring, discomfort, and a change in the vaginal opening. A perineoplasty restores this tissue to improve comfort and cosmetic appearance.
CH
Clitoral Hood Reduction
The clitoral hood is the skin that covers the clitoris, the most sensitive part of female genitalia. Some people are born with excess tissue in this area, and a clitoral hood reduction can reduce the skin surrounding the clitoris. This procedure is also referred to as Hoodectomy or Clitoropexy.

Anal Skin Tag Removal
Anal skin tag removal is a quick procedure that removes rectal skin tags surrounding the anus. Skin tags in this area may be confused with hemorrhoids; however, these skin tags are harmless but may cause discomfort.
Hymenoplasty
This cosmetic gynecology procedure restores the hymen and is also known as hymen reconstructive surgery. The hymen is membrane tissue that surrounds or partially covers the external vaginal opening.
Non-Surgical

AVIVA FemTite Scarless Labiaplasty
AVIVA is a non-surgical vaginal procedure that reduces vulvar tissue with radiofrequency technology using the FemTite device by InMode. This procedure uses no incisions to reduce excess tissue vulvar and labial tissue.
VuL
Labial Puff
Labial puff treatment addresses volume loss within the area using dermal filler. This restores appearance to the labia and vulva areas.
VuL
Carboxy
Carboxytherapy uses CO2 gas to stimulate blood flow and lymph circulation to improve lubrication, signs of aging in the skin, and vulva appearance through a simple topical treatment that can be used at home or post-treatment in the office.

Prior to any treatment, our team always meets with you to get to know you and your concerns. We provide an open, welcoming environment where women feel heard and comfortable to discuss their experiences and desired results. One discussion within the consultation will be whether you prefer a surgical or non-surgical route. We can go into details, pros and cons, and typical results for both types of cosmetic gynecology treatments and recommend a specific procedure to suit your needs. Some patients achieve the best results by combining different types of procedures.
