AVIVA Scarless Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a cosmetic gynecology procedure that can improve the appearance of the labia minora (smaller inner lips) and/or the labia majora (larger outer lips). Many physicians only perform labiaplasty minora so their websites will just refer to this as “labiaplasty.” This isn’t completely accurate. Dr. Brenner performs a full array of cosmetic gynecologic procedures. Therefore, the true definitions are as follows for the reduction of the labia.

Labiaplasty minora– surgery/procedure to reduce the excess/redundant/ bulging skin of the labia minora

Labiaplasty majora– surgery/procedure is often used to describe the reduction of elongated/loose outer labia.

The simple answer is – YES! Labia come in many shapes, sizes and even colors. No two women’s labia look exactly alike and, usually, the two sides are not exactly the same size or shape. Some women have minimal labial tissue, whereas other women have elongated labia with multiple folds and grooves. The color and thickness of the labia can also vary from person to person. Some have labial edges that are pink; others have dark edges on their labia. Some women’s labia extend to the bottom of the vagina; others have labia that only extend halfway down the opening of the vagina. Some women have thin labia, others have thick labial tissue.

It’s all normal! However, just as with breasts and noses, just because it’s normal doesn’t mean you are stuck with it. Labiaplasty has become one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the world.

During your consultation, Dr. Brenner will review your complete medical history and perform a physical exam. She will discuss your desired changes and aesthetic goals and work with you to determine if an AVIVA FemTite nonsurgical procedure is right for you. The two of you will also discuss if you would be better suited for a surgical approach. The two of you will determine your aesthetic goals and develop a customized plan based on your unique anatomy. Dr. Brenner will review with you her album of before and after pictures to help you determine the aesthetic look you are seeking. She will answer questions you may have about cosmetic gynecologic procedures. Next, our patient coordinator will review the financial aspect and costs associated with having a scarless labiaplasty in Cincinnati Ohio. If needed, we can discuss financing options. The final steps include scheduling and preparations for your big day.

Patient comfort is of upmost importance for Dr. Brenner’s patients. Patients are given the options to take oral and injectable pain medications and and an anxiolytic medication. If patients choose to have pain medications and anxiolytic medications, a driver is needed. Dr. Brenner then injects the local anesthetic in several areas of the vulva. It is the local anesthesia that can be uncomfortable. Therefore, during the injection of the numbing medicine, patients are also given a handheld device called ProNox®. ProNox® is a self-delivery nitrous oxide system that significantly assists with any discomfort or anxiety you may have. After the numbing injection, you should not feel any further discomfort during the procedure. Next, Dr. Brenner inserts the AVIVA FemTite cannula to perform radio frequency-based tightening and fat reduction in the desired areas of the vulva to reduce excess skin and laxity.. Following AVIVA FemTite, she then performs a Morpheus8 (Radio frequency Microneedling) treatment on the entire vulva (labia minora, labia majora, clitoral hood and mons pubis) for enhanced tissue tightening. Finally, she applies a recovery cream on the external genitalia.

The AVIVA FemTite procedure is a relatively short procedure (less than 1 hour) and has a significantly less recovery compared to a surgical approach. Women are back to their full routine and sex life in 1-2 weeks. Women are back to work the day after the procedure.

As with any medical procedure, there are remote risks. Typically, complications with a scarless labiaplasty are rare. Surgical risks can be reduced by selecting an experienced cosmetic gynecologist and carefully following post-operative instructions. Dr. Brenner typically performs labiaplasty surgery in her office with local and oral anesthesia and ProNox inhaled nitrous oxide. Therefore, since general anesthesia and a hospital stay isn’t necessary, many risks typically associated with surgery are eliminated. Dr. Brenner will have an in-depth discussion with you during the consultation process of the remote risks that have been associated with labiaplasty.

Our consent form includes the following: prolonged healing, infection, loss of sensitivity, uneven labia, pain with intercourse, changes in pigmentation, irregular areas of the skin, numbness, and cosmetic results not up to expectations. The biggest concern that you need to be aware of is that the tissue reduction is not as significant as with a surgical repair.

Therefore, choose your cosmetic gynecologist carefully – one that offers both surgical and nonsurgical options.

Dr. Brenner and her team will give you a detailed explanation of what to expect after the procedure and several tips to enhance the healing process. Most women experience minimal pain and swelling after an AVIVA FemTite procedure. Narcotic pain medications are not typically needed. You will have some mild swelling and soreness for a week or two. Typically, the swelling and soreness is just a few days. After one to two weeks, you can resume all your activities including intercourse.
