Your health needs can change from year to year, and it’s important to know which type of visit is right for you. Annual exams focus on prevention and routine care, while concern-driven visits let your provider take a closer look at specific concerns or symptoms.
Routine Gynecologic Care
Annual gynecology exams are intended to provide preventative health care services. This typically updating/reviewing your medical, social and family history, a thorough physical and gynecologic exam, Pap smear, screening for genetically-linked cancer syndromes, discussing birth control options/family planning, and often drawing your blood for routine screening such as cholesterol. This is not the type of visit to schedule if you have problems/concerns.
Concern-driven visits are intended to address specific concerns or problems you may be having, including concerns about your hormone levels, thyroid, generalized fatigue, weight gain, painful intercourse, recurrent vaginal discharge, low libido, and incontinence (just to name a few).

How to Prepare for Your Visit
Annual Gynecologic Exam
Step 1.
What You Need to Know
All routine gynecological appointments are performed by board-certified gynecologists in Cincinnati.
Please bring your medical records with you if you have a copy of these. We advise our patients to create a patient account prior to your visit and to complete your medical profile in advance. Prior to your visit, it’s important to also know what your insurance policy entails.
Step 2.
Medical Records
We are often asked if you need to obtain a copy of your medical record? If you do not have any prior issues that you were treated for or any test results that you would like us to see, it is usually not necessary to obtain records.
If you have had abnormal test results in the past, or any history with gynecological issues, please arrange to have your medical records forwarded to our office BEFORE your first visit, but only after you have made an appointment. Call us with any questions regarding transfer of your medical records.
Step 3.
Complete Your Medical Profile in Advance of Your Visit
Amy Brenner MD & Associates are committed to offering the very latest in technology, both in medical care and in managing patient information to ensure privacy, security, and ease of use. We use a secure online EMR (electronic medical record), that allows patients to complete paperwork in the comfort of your own home before coming to the office.
Step 4.
Create a Patient Account
(This is a complimentary secure feature that will allow you to update information, access your medical records, and communicate with our providers) ideally 3 days before your office appointment. We will email you a history form to print out and complete, please bring the completed form to your visit.
If you are unable to take advantage of this option, please come to the office 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment so that you can enter your medical history and be ready to be seen at your appointment time. BE SURE TO BRING YOUR PHOTO ID AND INSURANCE CARD WITH YOU!
Step 5.
Know Your Insurance Policy
Know Your Insurance Policy: Amy Brenner MD & Associates are very knowledgeable of the most common insurance plans. With that being said, it is not feasible for our staff to know your specific plan inside and out. It is up to you to know your co-pays, deductible, and what kind of visits are covered. If in doubt, call your insurance carrier before making an appointment.
You are expected to pay your co-pays and/or deductibles at time of service. If we are unable to verify your benefits, a deposit will be charged for that visit that will be reimbursed at such time that we receive payment from your insurance carrier. This is why it is important to be informed on your insurance benefits prior to making your appointment.
Bring Test Results With You to Discuss With Our Providers
If you would like our providers to address specific test results (i.e. lab results, imaging studies) or records from another physician, please bring a copy of the result to your visit. Our staff can request a copy of the test result, but it takes time for us to receive it. If you don’t bring a copy of the test result with you, then you will need to make another appointment to review the result after our provider has had time to analyze the findings.
Addressing Your Concerns
We would love to have the time to address every concern AND complete your annual exam. However, it is just not possible to do this in a manner that will provide you with the best possible care. For this reason, we strongly encourage you to prioritize your needs when scheduling appointments, which often means scheduling a separate visit on a different day for preventative services.
