Improve Your Physical Health and Wellness With Anti-Aging Treatments

As we age, we gain valuable wisdom, knowledge, and experience that enriches our lives. While aging is by no means a bad thing or something that needs to be “corrected,” we do know there are plenty of unwelcome side effects that appear as time passes.

These effects can be internal (like reduced energy levels and disrupted sleep patterns) and also external (like fine lines, wrinkles, and other skin changes). In the past, these symptoms were an inevitable part of life. But thanks to recent advancements in science and technology, we no longer have to accept these unwanted side effects.

Amy Brenner, MD & Associates is a wellness clinic in Cincinnati dedicated to helping you live a healthier and happier life. As experts in anti-aging, we have the tools, treatments, and expertise to help you feel your best—even as you age.

If you’re ready to feel better than ever before, schedule a consultation or keep reading to learn our favorite tips, advice, and treatments to reverse unwanted signs of aging.

Understanding Aging

To understand how and why anti-aging treatments work, it’s first necessary to understand why our bodies experience age-related changes in the first place.

Internal Changes

Although most people associate aging with external changes, aging is a process that primarily happens beneath the surface. Although age-related changes aren’t always visible, they do impact our overall well-being. Some of the most common internal changes our bodies experience include:

Hormonal Fluctuations

Hormones are chemical messengers that tell our bodies what to do and when to do it. When we have balanced hormone levels, our body functions smoothly. However, when hormone levels get thrown off, it can wreak havoc on our system.

Hormonal fluctuations are a natural part of the aging process. It’s common for both men and women to experience a decrease in sex hormones (estrogen and testosterone) as they get older. Changes in these hormones can lead to a wide range of unwanted symptoms, including low energy, mood swings, weight gain or difficulty losing weight, sexual dysfunction, and more.

Cellular Degeneration

Our bodies are made up of trillions of tiny cells. Over time, these cells accumulate damage and eventually start deteriorating. Cellular degeneration can lead to many age-related health conditions, including:

  • Reduced cardiovascular, respiratory, and musculoskeletal system functions
  • Decreased cellular energy production (leading to low energy levels)
  • Weakened immune response
  • Chronic inflammation
Metabolic Slowdown

Your metabolic rate (or metabolism) is how fast your body burns calories to produce energy. A healthy metabolism is critical for your body to run smoothly, but it’s common for our metabolism to decrease with age. This can have negative effects on your:

  • Energy level
  • Body temperature
  • Weight and body composition
  • Digestion
  • Cognitive functioning
Decreased Immune Response

As we age, the immune system isn’t as well equipped to fight off threats. Because of this, it takes longer for the body to recover from illness. With age, the immune system also starts to lose its “memory” of how to fight infections it has already seen. This decreased immune response can lead to:

  • Frequent and recurrent infections
  • Digestive problems
  • Blood disorders

Anti-Aging Treatments for Physical Health

To maintain optimal physical health through the years, it’s important to think about health from a holistic standpoint. There isn’t one magic treatment for anti-aging, but with a combination of treatments and lifestyle practices, we can eliminate the most bothersome side effects of aging.

In-Clinic Treatments

At Amy Brenner, MD & Associates, we offer a number of in-clinic anti-aging treatments, all tailored to meet your individual needs and goals. These include:

Bio-Identical Hormone Therapy

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is a treatment that replenishes your hormone levels to treat the unwanted side effects of aging.

Benefits of hormone replacement therapy can include:

  • Decreased fat
  • Lowered cholesterol
  • Increased libido & sexual satisfaction
  • Improved strength and energy
  • Increased protection against diseases associated with aging
  • Improved sleep
  • Enhanced sense of well-being
  • Decreased hot flashes and night sweats
  • Improved cognitive function

HRT is a treatment for both men and women and comes in 4 delivery methods—pellets, injections, creams, and oral medications. At Amy Brenner, MD & Associates, we make the HRT process as easy and convenient as possible in 4 steps:

1. Hormone Consultation

During your initial consultation, you’ll sit down with one of our experts to discuss your symptoms and options for HRT in Cincinnati

2. Initial Lab Work

You’ll complete initial lab work so we have a baseline of your hormone levels.

3. Lab Follow-Up Visits

Throughout the treatment process, you’ll have lab visits to check your hormone levels. We will use this information to adjust your dosage if needed.

4. Hormone Management Visit

Every 3 to 4 months, you will meet with your provider to discuss your hormone therapy treatment and changes in your symptoms.

Take our HRT quiz to find out if you are a candidate!

NAD+ Therapy

NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is an essential part of every cell in your body. It serves two main functions—it turns nutrients into energy, and it helps regulate other cellular functions (like DNA repair).

NAD levels naturally decrease as we age, and NAD+ therapy aims to restore NAD to optimal levels. Potential benefits of NAD+ therapy include:

  • Improved mental clarity
  • Better energy and endurance
  • Improved sleep
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Improved metabolism
  • Better exercise tolerance
  • Immune support
  • Reduced cravings

NAD+ is offered in two different forms: patches and injections. If you are interested in NAD+ therapy as part of an overall treatment plan to optimize your health, the process will start with an in-depth consultation. During your consultation, you and your provider will work together to create a customized treatment plan for your needs.

If you determine the NAD+ injections are the best treatment for you, you will receive 1 injection twice weekly for 4 weeks before effects are noted. From there, we recommend a maintenance dose of 1 injection every 7–30 days, depending on your body’s unique needs.

If you decide that NAD+ patch therapy is a better treatment modality for you, you can expect to use 1 patch daily for 12 hours for 3 days and 1 patch weekly for 3 weeks. Your maintenance dose would be 1 patch every 7–30 days (again, depending on your body’s needs).

Ozone Therapy

Ozone therapy is a regenerative treatment that can affect many cellular functions. This therapy is done as an infusion in the office and takes about an hour to complete. Almost everyone is a candidate for ozone therapy, and research has shown several benefits from this treatment, which include:

  • Boosting the immune system
  • Improving circulation
  • Increasing cellular efficiency
  • Enhancing oxygen-dependent processes
  • Decreasing inflammation
  • Improving mitochondrial health

If you’re interested in ozone therapy, your appointment will start with a consultation to discuss your medical history, current medications, and bothersome symptoms. From there, we will complete lab work to look at your overall health and set your dosing schedule.

Once we have the lab results, we will see you back in the office to discuss your results and determine if ozone therapy is right for you.

Lifestyle Practices

To maximize your results from the in-clinic anti-aging treatments above, it’s important to engage in healthy lifestyle practices. Although these may seem simple, they have a significant impact on your health and wellness, especially as you get older.

Healthy Diet

We hear the term “healthy diet” a lot, but what exactly does that mean? It’s a tricky question because there isn’t a set standard for everyone. When we talk to patients about their diet, we consider religious beliefs, culture, socio-economics, and personal preferences.

In general, we recommend that patients:

  • Eliminate or reduce consumption of sugar and alcohol
  • Eat a rainbow of fruits and vegetables
  • Choose healthy fats (olive oil, coconut oil, nuts, etc.)
  • Ensure quality protein
  • Drink enough water (approximately half your weight in ounces of water per day)

Exercise

Exercise is essential to maintaining a youthful appearance and healthy body as you age. In general, it is recommended that you aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity every day. Exercise can improve your:

  • Bone health
  • Heart health
  • Metabolism
  • Muscle mass
  • Cognitive function
  • Sleep quality
  • Immune function

Stress Management

Stress can take a serious toll on our health and well-being. In today’s fast-paced world, it’s more important than ever to prioritize stress management. We recommend patients do this by:

  • Using relaxation techniques
  • Exercising regularly
  • Prioritizing sleep
  • Practicing self-care

If you are experiencing a lot of stress, we often recommend patients complete cortisol testing. This allows us to see the amount of stress hormone your body is producing and create a treatment plan to help.
